            It’s been fifteen years since the clouds first disappeared.  Not many people who witnessed that event are still around to talk about it.  I was twelve.            It’s interesting how such a small thing like clouds could make such a large impact on the world.  At first not much was different; you know, except for the news channels forecasting the end of the world.  All the clouds, worldwide, disappeared; it must be the end of the world.  Slowly, bigger changes took place.  The days were hotter and the nights colder.  Trees grew bigger, and men tireder.  Troops in the hotter regions moved back home.  Then, troops in o

            Candlestick Nick wasn’t a very good scarecrow.  He had all the trappings to make him the best scarecrow, but for some reason he didn’t work the way he was supposed to.  He had a body made of sticks and wood.  His pants were old and tattered.  They looked like something the pilgrims wore.  A dirty, moth-eaten, flannel shirt draped over his spindly arms and slender fingers.  On his shoulders rested a carved pumpkin.  It was a strange pumpkin because it stayed there year after year, not rotting, and no one admitted to changing it.  Each night a glow flickered from behind his mouth and eyes.  Lastly, atop his head rested a

October 14th            It was late at night, and Nancy just got home from a blind date.  It didn’t go very well.  She slumped onto her couch and her wild blonde hair flew everywhere.  Brushing the hair from her face she grabbed the remote and turned on the TV.  Reality dating show.  Flip.  Infomercial.  Flip.  Cooking.  Flip.  Cartoons.  Something about watching children’s cartoons relaxed her.  The line between good and evil was usually clear.  But, most of all, the premises were fairly simple and she didn’t have to concentrate.            The blinds to her window next to the TV were open.  She could see the moonlight
